The Mississippi Department of Transportation said it is replacing six bridges along I-20 at the Hinds-Warren County line and nearing completion of three bridges on State Route 16/149 over the Yazoo River Floodway Channels.

The Booneville Police Department said it is marking National Police Week by remembering officers who died in the line of duty and thanking current officers and their families for their service.

A news release said Disaster Survivor Assistance Centers for DR-48-99 will open Monday, May 11, at 8 a.m., in Carroll, Coahoma, Grenada, Holmes, Montgomery, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tunica and Yalobusha counties. The release said Disaster Recovery Centers in six other counties remain open.

A donation drop-off point has opened at 702 Saints Trail NW in Brookhaven, open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., organizers said. Needed items include hygiene products, diapers, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, buckets, gas cans and chainsaws.

Forecasters said temperatures will be near normal in the mid-70s to lower 80s early in the week, then rise to the mid-80s and low-90s later. Dry conditions are expected through at least Friday.

A 7:16 p.m. radar update said showers and thunderstorms have diminished and pose little remaining threat as a cold front moves south. The update said dry conditions are expected through the rest of the week once precipitation ends.

Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms developing across the Mid-South on Mother’s Day could bring damaging winds and small hail through the afternoon and early evening. Drier, spring-like conditions are expected later in the week.

The National Weather Service said parts of Mississippi face a slight risk of severe storms from the afternoon of May 10 through the morning of May 11, including damaging winds and hail up to the size of a quarter.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation posted a Mother’s Day message thanking its employees who are mothers and asking the public not to litter, the agency said.

Forecasters say a marginal risk for a few severe thunderstorms exists across parts of east Arkansas, north Mississippi and southwest Tennessee later this afternoon into the evening, with damaging winds the primary threat.
