The National Weather Service in Memphis said an early summer heatwave will persist through the end of the week, with many areas seeing heat indices above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase Friday ahead of a late-week cold front that should ease the heat by early next week, the agency said.

The National Weather Service in Memphis said a Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight and that a damaging wind threat could develop this afternoon in northwest Tennessee.

An update Tuesday said heavy rainfall and a Flash Flood Warning had affected Henry and Carroll counties in west Tennessee, but the threat ended at 5:30 p.m.

Forecasters say hot conditions will persist for the next several days, but a stalled frontal boundary is expected to bring showers and storms next week and push highs slightly below normal.
