Northeast Student from Corinth Earns Place in Rural Physicians Scholarship

John Thomas Gaines of Corinth said he earned a place in the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program after studying at Northeast.

“I chose Northeast because of its outstanding academic reputation and success in preparing students for careers in the medical field,” Gaines said. He said his time there helped him grow academically and personally and reinforced his desire to become a physician.

Gaines said challenging coursework and meaningful mentorship provided the foundation he needed to succeed. “The relationships I built with my instructors made all the difference,” he said, crediting faculty members including Mr. Miller, Dr. Nock and Mrs. Morris and the entire campus community.

He urged students who hope to pursue medicine to stay focused, work hard, ask questions and build relationships. “Take advantage of every opportunity Northeast offers,” Gaines said. He added that the foundation for his success was built during his time there.
