Gov. Reeves appoints Celeste Embrey Wilson to Mississippi Supreme Court

Gov. Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Celeste Embrey Wilson to the Mississippi Supreme Court, Northern District 3, Place 1, the governor’s office said. The appointment fills a vacancy created by the confirmation of Robert P. Chamberlin to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, the announcement said.

Wilson currently serves as a circuit court judge for Mississippi’s 21st Judicial District, which covers DeSoto County, the governor’s office said. She was appointed to the circuit court in February 2017 and initially served in the 17th Circuit Court District. She served as DeSoto County court judge from January 2009 through February 2017 and was an assistant district attorney in the 17th Judicial District for seven years, the announcement said.

“Judge Wilson has dedicated her career to serving the people of Mississippi with integrity, fairness, and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Reeves said in the announcement. He said Wilson’s judicial and prosecutorial experience and leadership within the state’s court system made her an “outstanding choice” for the Supreme Court.

“I am deeply honored and humbled by this appointment and grateful for the confidence Governor Reeves has placed in me,” Wilson said in the announcement. The governor’s office said she earned her J.D. from the University of Memphis School of Law and a B.A. from Delta State University.

The governor’s office said Wilson’s term will begin Aug. 1, 2026, and continue until the seat is filled by a special election.
