Governor Tate Reeves appoints Amanda Tollison to Mississippi Supreme Court

JACKSON, Miss. — Governor Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Amanda Jones Tollison of Oxford to the Mississippi Supreme Court, Northern District 3, Place 2. The appointment fills a vacancy created when Judge James D. Maxwell II was confirmed to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi.

Reeves praised Tollison, calling her an “excellent attorney, respected leader in The Mississippi Bar, and dedicated public servant.” He cited her extensive legal experience, knowledge of Mississippi’s legal system, and commitment to public service as reasons for her qualification.

Tollison is currently a partner at Butler Snow LLP, where she has worked since 2012. Her legal expertise includes administrative law, appellate litigation, regulatory compliance, and election law. She previously served as legal counsel to Gov. Haley Barbour from 2008 to 2012, advising on legal, legislative, and policy matters, including judicial appointments and disaster recovery efforts.

Her earlier career included work at Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP and Phelps Dunbar LLP, where she gained experience in complex commercial and product liability litigation, as well as white-collar criminal defense in both state and federal courts.

Tollison expressed gratitude for the appointment, stating she is humbled and committed to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. She has served as president of The Mississippi Bar, on its Board of Bar Commissioners, and as a trustee of the Mississippi Bar Foundation. In 2005, she led the Disaster Legal Assistance Program following Hurricane Katrina.

Her term on the Supreme Court will begin September 1, 2026, and will last until a special election is held to fill the seat.
