Gov. Tate Reeves Names Dr. Daniel Harrison as Mississippi Apprenticeship Director

Jackson, Mississippi — Governor Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Dr. Daniel “Deano” Harrison as director of the Mississippi Office of Apprenticeship, also known as ApprenticeshipMS.

Harrison previously served as a workforce development manager for AccelerateMS, where he focused on strengthening career pathways and expanding workforce opportunities across southern Mississippi. He brings more than 20 years of experience in program management, recruitment, and staffing.

He has also worked as a workforce project director at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, developing solutions to meet regional industry needs. At Singing River Health System, he helped launch Mississippi’s first healthcare registered apprenticeship programs for certified nursing assistants, phlebotomists, and medical assistants. Harrison served earlier as an operations officer in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Harrison earned a doctorate in human capital development from the University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s degree in human resource management from Troy University. As director, he will lead efforts to seek recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor as a State Apprenticeship Agency and oversee the creation of the Mississippi State Apprenticeship Council, which will bring together industry leaders, educators, and workforce experts.

Governor Reeves said registered apprenticeships help connect Mississippians with rewarding careers and support economic growth. The governor emphasized that under Harrison’s leadership, ApprenticeshipMS aims to expand apprenticeship opportunities aligned with industry demands and to double the number of active apprentices statewide to roughly 7,000. Reeves also noted that the program will evaluate various performance metrics, including program sustainability and geographic access, to strengthen Mississippi’s talent pipeline.

Through collaboration with industry, education, and workforce partners, ApprenticeshipMS seeks to increase access to high-quality registered apprenticeship programs across the state.
