Governor Reeves appoints Sabrina Howell as Chancery Judge in Mississippi
JACKSON, Miss. — Governor Tate Reeves announced the appointment of Sabrina D. Howell of Grenada as Chancery Judge for Mississippi’s 3rd Chancery District. The district includes DeSoto, Grenada, Montgomery, Panola, Tate, and Yalobusha counties.
Her appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Senior Chancellor Percy L. Lynchard Jr., effective June 29, 2026, according to a news release from the governor’s office. Reeves cited Howell’s extensive Chancery Court experience and her service as a youth court referee and family master as key qualifications.
Howell has practiced law for more than 20 years, focusing on Chancery Court practice and public service in the district. She currently serves as a youth court referee and family master in Tate County, handling youth, pro se, and child-support cases. She has participated in hundreds of trials across the state in front of Chancery Judges.
She is a former adjunct professor at the University of Mississippi School of Law and a past president of the Grenada County Bar Association. Howell has been recognized for her leadership and community involvement through organizations such as Leadership Grenada, the Grenada Community Foundation, and the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project.
Howell earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Criminal Justice from Delta State University. Her term as Chancery Judge will begin July 1, 2026, for the remainder of a four-year term.
