Reeves appoints Renee McBride Porter as 10th Chancery Court district judge

JACKSON, Miss. — Governor Tate Reeves announced Monday the appointment of Renee McBride Porter of Columbia as chancellor for the 10th Chancery Court District.

The appointment fills a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Chase Ford Morgan on Aug. 16. Porter’s term begins Aug. 17 and will run for the remainder of a four-year term, according to the governor’s office.

Reeves praised Porter, saying her experience and dedication to public service make her well-qualified. “Renee has devoted her career to serving Mississippi families and children,” he said.

Porter currently serves as youth court referee and special master in Marion County. She has spent more than 12 years as guardian ad litem, advocating for children in court proceedings. She has also been a city prosecutor in Columbia and has extensive chancery court experience through private practice since 1989.

She has argued appeals before both the Mississippi Court of Appeals and the Mississippi Supreme Court. Porter earned her law degree from the University of Mississippi and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
