A public advisory warned residents that the August heat could lead to heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and urged people to take precautions.
The advisory recommended staying in air-conditioned areas when possible and bringing pets indoors. It also urged people to drink plenty of water before they feel thirsty and to wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
The advisory warned against leaving children, older adults or pets in vehicles and included the safety reminder, “Look before you lock.”
It also asked people to check on friends, family and neighbors, especially during prolonged periods of heat.
