The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, warned that heat indices could top 100 degrees Fahrenheit across the Mid-South and issued a Heat Advisory for much of the region.
The agency said heat indices are expected to soar above 100 degrees areawide and that the advisory covers a large portion of the Mid-South.
The Memphis office urged people who must be outside to hydrate often, seek air conditioning and watch for signs of heat-related illness. It also advised protecting pets, infants and the elderly.
The National Weather Service encouraged residents to follow local forecasts and heed safety guidance as the heat persists.
