Flash flood watch for northern Mid‑South; heat index could hit 110, NWS Memphis says
Thunderstorms with heavy rain are expected through tonight, and a flash flood watch remains in effect for the northern Mid‑South, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said.
The agency said the watch is focused on the northern Mid‑South, where heavy rainfall could lead to rapid flooding.
After the storm threat passes, the National Weather Service said a prolonged period of heat will begin this weekend. Heat index values are forecast to climb above 100 degrees on Saturday.
The agency added that heat index readings could potentially reach 110 degrees by early next week.
