Heat advisory until 8 p.m.; heat index to top 100 degrees ahead of storms
A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. as heat builds ahead of scattered strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, forecasters said.
Forecasters said heat index values are expected to exceed 100 degrees across the area and rise above 105 degrees in southeast Arkansas and northwest Mississippi.
Forecasters said values above 105 degrees are considered heat-illness territory.
