Man charged in theft, burglary in Tupelo

Authorities arrested Christopher B. Blassingame, 33, of Nettleton, on charges related to a vehicle theft and commercial burglary in Tupelo.

On May 11, officers responded to 2119 Dalton Drive, home to VPC Group, after reports of a stolen vehicle. Business personnel told officers that an employee’s vehicle had been taken from the property. The stolen vehicle was recovered in Pontotoc, Mississippi, on May 14, according to police.

Later, on May 30, officers responded to a burglary at 1725 North Gloster Street, known as Cellphone and Tablet. Business personnel reported that a suspect broke into the building and stole multiple items. After investigation, police identified Blassingame as a suspect.

Blassingame was arrested and charged with one count of burglary of a commercial building and one count of motor vehicle theft. On June 1, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Weir ordered him held on a $40,000 bond. The charges are expected to be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury, the police said.
