MDOT spotlights worker who closed lane on U.S. 49 for emergency repairs

The Mississippi Department of Transportation on Wednesday spotlighted Eddie Brown, a transportation infrastructure maintenance technician who joined the agency in May 2025, saying he helped close a southbound lane of U.S. 49 just south of Flora in Madison County so crews could make emergency repairs.

MDOT said photos taken last summer show Brown setting up traffic cones and barrels to protect both motorists and maintenance workers while crews worked to restore the roadway.

“Work zone safety starts long before the first repair is made,” the department said, adding that employees like Brown regularly help ensure motorists and maintenance crews stay protected.

The department identified Brown as a member of the Canton Maintenance Office and said it posted the images and profile as part of its Worker Wednesday series, thanking him for his dedication and professionalism.
