MDOT technician tests concrete to certify highway safety
Allen “Fred” Johnston is an engineering technician in the Materials Lab at the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s District 3 headquarters in Yazoo City, the department said. He tests concrete samples to certify they meet strict specifications.
MDOT said the tests confirm the material can withstand daily traffic and heavy loads. The department described the work as part of its quality-control process for ongoing projects.
Although the work takes place in a laboratory, MDOT said its impact stretches across the state’s highways by helping ensure roads are safe and built to last.
The department thanked Johnston for his attention to accuracy and quality control, saying his work helps build a stronger Mississippi from the ground up.
