MEMA urged residents to pick up one piece of litter to help prevent larger problems for communities, waterways and public spaces, the agency said in a statement.
The agency said preparedness reduces the impact of disasters and that simple actions, such as removing litter, can help avert bigger issues for local areas and the environment.
MEMA said it is proud to support First Lady Elee Reeves and the Mississippi Litter Prevention Task Force and invited Mississippians to take part by picking up one piece of litter.
The agency included campaign tags in its message and encouraged participation under the slogans #PickItUpMississippi, #OnePieceAtATime and #PreparedMississippi, it said.
