Memphis goes more than a month without below-normal daily highs, NWS says

Memphis has gone more than a month without recording a below-normal daily high, the National Weather Service’s Memphis office said.

The office posted a 2026 daily temperature graph showing observed temperatures trending upward while the normal daily high and low temperature range — shown as a dark gray band on the chart — began to cool around mid-August, the office said.

The office said its climate website includes similar graphs for Jonesboro, Jackson, Tupelo and other locations. It also said the site provides historical data, including records for 1980.

The agency said the charts and data are intended to put the current heat wave into perspective for the public.
