Mississippi audit finds $10.5 million in Medicaid spending for people in U.S. illegally
State Auditor Shad White said an analysis commissioned by his office earlier this year found about $10.5 million in Medicaid payments for people living in the U.S. illegally during federal fiscal 2023 through 2025, his office said.
White’s office said the Mississippi Division of Medicaid identified the spending while working with the auditor to determine why the state’s Medicaid program had never reported such payments, despite federal law requiring reporting of care provided to people in the country illegally.
White said taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent. His office said the full report is available on the auditor’s website under the “Reports” tab by searching “Medicaid.”
