Audit: Mississippi overlooked $10.5 million in Medicaid spending for undocumented immigrants
State Auditor Shad White said Mississippi had not reported Medicaid payments for undocumented immigrants before 2025 and that a review of the program identified roughly $10.5 million in such spending from 2023 through 2025.
White commissioned the review after discovering the state had not filed the required reports, his office said. The auditor’s office said federal law requires states to report Medicaid spending on noncitizens.
During the review, Mississippi’s Division of Medicaid identified approximately $10.5 million spent on Medicaid for undocumented immigrants from 2023 through 2025, the auditor’s office said.
“Mississippi taxpayers should know the cost of illegal immigration and what their tax dollars are funding,” White said. “Our office will continue to let you know how your tax dollars are being spent — the good, the bad, and the ugly,” his office added.
