National Weather Service Issues Extreme Heat Warning for Mid-South Through Sunday

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for the entire Mid-South through 8 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said.

The agency said heat indices are expected to soar to at least 110 degrees each day, creating a high risk for heat-related illnesses.

The weather service said there is a high chance the heat wave will persist into the middle of next week. It advised people to take frequent breaks in the shade or in air-conditioned places, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, wear lightweight, light-colored and loose clothing, stay hydrated and check on neighbors.

The National Weather Service urged residents to monitor local forecasts and follow guidance from public safety officials.
