NOAA weather center says summer heat is returning, posts heat-risk probabilities
The Weather Prediction Center, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said summer heat is returning and posted probabilities of major heat-related impacts on its website, the agency said.
The WPC said its heat-risk metric combines weather forecasts, climate data and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention health factors to calculate a daily level of danger for specific locations, the agency said.
The probabilities of major heat risks and other heat-risk categories are available on the WPC website. The agency provided a page with maps and explanations at https://wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/heatrisk/.
The WPC said the information is intended to inform people about heat-related dangers and help communities prepare, the agency said.
