Northeast Mississippi Community College posts video as proposed budget threatens adult education funding

Northeast Mississippi Community College released a six-minute video featuring adult education students who described how the program transformed their lives, the college said.

The college said the students told stories showing the program is more than earning a diploma or improving job skills. “It’s a second chance, a fresh start, and an opportunity to build a better future,” the college said students reported.

Northeast Mississippi Community College said the program has changed lives throughout its five-county service area and continues to reach communities across Mississippi and beyond. The college added that it could film for days because so many students’ lives have been affected by adult education.

The college warned that the proposed federal budget would eliminate federal funding for Adult Education under WIOA Title II and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act in 2027. It urged viewers to contact local and state representatives to support continued funding so those opportunities remain available for future students, the college said. “Every story matters. Every student matters. Adult Education matters,” the college added.
