NWS Memphis issues extreme heat warning, warns of rising drought risk

The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee, said an Extreme Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory are in effect through 8 p.m. Sunday.

The agency said prolonged above-average temperatures and minimal rainfall have raised the chances of a rapid-onset drought toward the end of August.

The warnings and the drought outlook were posted by the National Weather Service’s Memphis office.

The agency attributed the heightened drought risk to the combination of sustained high temperatures and limited precipitation.
