NWS Memphis warns of heat indices above 105°F; isolated storms may bring 60 mph gusts
The U.S. National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee warned in a morning post that heat indices could top 105°F and that isolated storms may produce damaging wind gusts.
Forecasters said the rain and storm coverage will be isolated and mainly affect north Mississippi, and that a few storms could produce gusts up to 60 mph.
The agency urged residents to take precautions, advising people to hydrate, remain in air-conditioned locations when possible and check on vulnerable neighbors. The NWS also reiterated its “Look Before You Lock” message, warning motorists to check vehicles for children and pets before locking them.
The National Weather Service posted the guidance as part of its morning forecast update and encouraged people to follow local safety recommendations.
