Marathon Cheese to expand Booneville facility, add 39 jobs

Marathon Cheese is expanding its Booneville facility with a $326,000 investment, adding new manufacturing equipment and a production line to increase slicing and packaging capacity, state officials said Tuesday.

The Mississippi Development Authority reported that the project is creating 39 jobs at the plant, which has been part of the Booneville community since 1962. The company, headquartered in Marathon, Wisconsin, employs 192 full-time workers at the site.

Marathon Cheese first expanded in Booneville in 2000, moving to a larger, more efficient facility. The latest investment includes new equipment installed by the end of July, according to the agency.

Gary S. Bachand, president of Marathon Cheese, credited Booneville’s infrastructure and workforce for supporting the company’s investment. He expressed appreciation for collaborations with the Mississippi Development Authority, Prentiss County, and the city of Booneville.

The Mississippi Development Authority noted that assistance includes support through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program. Prentiss County, Booneville, and the Tennessee Valley Authority are also involved in supporting the project.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves praised Marathon Cheese’s reinvestment, calling it a key example of long-term economic growth. “By reinvesting in its operations, Marathon Cheese is positioning itself for continued success in the decades ahead,” Reeves said.
