Mississippi announced a new statewide artificial intelligence education framework Thursday. Developed by the AI Workforce Readiness Council and in partnership with AccelerateMS and the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network, the 27-page document outlines AI skills from kindergarten through career training.
The framework aims to provide a clear roadmap for teaching and applying AI across education and workforce development. It emphasizes core skills such as ethical reasoning, cybersecurity awareness, and real-world applications in industries like agriculture, manufacturing, and healthcare. The goal is to ensure learners develop critical thinking and adaptability in an AI-driven economy, according to the state’s announcement.
Governor Tate Reeves (R) said the initiative underscores Mississippi’s leadership in innovation. “This framework is another example of our state leading the way in American innovation,” Reeves stated. “Artificial intelligence is going to transform industries, and this cutting-edge framework gives our students, educators, and workforce development partners a clear roadmap to succeed in a rapidly changing economy.”
Dr. Courtney Taylor, executive director of AccelerateMS, emphasized the importance of preparing people for the future beyond technology itself. “This is about more than technology — it’s about people,” she said. “We are building a system that prepares every Mississippian, from a student in the Delta to a shipbuilder on the Gulf Coast, to adapt, compete, and succeed in a rapidly changing world.”
According to Kollin Napier, director of MAIN and chair of the AI Workforce Readiness Council, the framework maintains a focus on human judgment and provides a clear path for educators and employers to equip learners with essential skills.
