Texas ousts Mississippi State 4-0 to stay alive at Women’s College World Series
Oklahoma City — Teagan Kavan pitched a complete-game four-hitter, leading Texas to a 4-0 victory over Mississippi State on Friday at the Women’s College World Series. The win keeps the Longhorns alive in the tournament and eliminates the Bulldogs from the field.
Kavan, who was the losing pitcher in Texas’s 6-3 loss to Tennessee on Thursday, returned to her dominant form. She threw only 78 pitches, struck out two batters and did not issue a walk. The senior pitcher improved to 26-6 this season.
Second-seeded Texas, with a 48-12 record, advances to face the winner of Saturday’s game between Alabama and Nebraska on Sunday. The Longhorns have a chance to reach the championship series, aiming to become the fifth team to win the title after losing their opening game in the tournament.
Mississippi State, playing in the WCWS for the first time, was eliminated after back-to-back shutout losses. The Bulldogs finished with a 43-21 record. Starter Delainey Everett, who had missed much of the season with a shoulder injury, took the loss, falling to 3-2. She pitched through the fourth inning, allowing two hits and the home run by Kaiah Altmeyer.
Altmeyer’s home run in the second inning gave Texas a 2-0 lead. Kayden Henry added a solo shot in the third — her 13th hit of the postseason — and nearly hit a home run herself with a double that just missed clearing the wall. Mississippi State’s Xiane Romero had three hits for the Bulldogs.
Mississippi State faced Texas and Texas Tech, the two teams from the 2025 championship series, in its first appearance at the WCWS. The Bulldogs also defeated Oklahoma twice in their super regional, with Everett earning the win in relief and a complete-game shutout in Game 3.
