Alina Habba says she is not in running to replace White House press secretary

Alina Habba, a leading pick on prediction markets to succeed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, said Wednesday that she is not being considered for the job, she wrote on X, according to Fox News Digital.

Leavitt, 28, announced earlier this month that she will step down from the podium at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children, Fox News Digital reported. As speculation swirled over a successor, bettors on the prediction market Kalshi began favoring Habba, giving her a roughly 35% chance of being named, according to the report.

Habba, who serves as senior adviser to the attorney general for U.S. attorneys and previously worked as a counselor to the president and as interim U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, wrote on X, “Flattered by the Kalshi odds, but I’m not in the running for any job.” She added, “However, if I’m getting a new one, I’d love for one of these anonymous sources to let me know first,” Fox News Digital reported.

After a federal appeals court upheld a ruling that her service as acting U.S. attorney was unlawful, Habba resigned from that post and was later named senior adviser to the attorney general for U.S. attorneys, Fox News Digital reported. She also previously served as former president Donald Trump’s personal attorney and as a high-profile surrogate during his 2024 campaign, the report said.

Following Habba’s post, Kalshi bettors shifted to CNN commentator Scott Jennings as the new favorite, followed by Leavitt’s deputy, Anna Kelly, Fox News Digital reported. Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer told Fox News Digital that the next press secretary will likely be someone with a strong existing relationship with Trump, the report said. Fox News Digital said it reached out to the White House for comment.
