Jeremy Sochan Will Be an NBA Champion Regardless of Finals Outcome

Jeremy Sochan will be an NBA champion no matter which team wins the Finals because he appeared for both the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks during the season, according to NBA transaction records and team rosters.

The 23-year-old forward began the season with the Spurs, the franchise that selected him in the first round of the 2022 draft, and later appeared for the Knicks this season, the records show. He has appeared off the bench for New York.

NBA teams customarily award championship rings to players who appeared for the franchise during the season, even if they were traded or waived before the Finals, a long-standing practice within the league. That custom means Sochan would be eligible for championship hardware from whichever club wins the title.

The situation leaves Sochan in a rare position: he will be part of a championship team on his résumé regardless of the Finals outcome because he played for both clubs that reached the league’s final series this season, according to league and team records.
