New app helps spectators track NASA jets and B-1 bombers during Fourth of July air show
An app designed to help spectators follow the Independence Day air show in Washington, D.C., was launched hours before the event. Created by White House official Shawn Chittle, the “4th of July Fly Over” app provides real-time updates on the scheduled aircraft flyovers.
The app features an adjustable countdown timer aligned with the official schedule, allowing users to manually update it if flights run early or late. It also displays information about the aircraft overhead, including photos, history, and basic facts, to enhance the viewing experience.
The nine-hour event, called the “Freedom 250” schedule, begins at 1:14 p.m. local time with a NASA F-5 flyover. The lineup includes fleet reviews from the Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy, with notable demonstrations from the Navy Blue Angels at 4:59 p.m. and the Air Force Thunderbirds at 6:25 p.m.
Additional highlights include the flight of Air Force One at 7 p.m., a flyover led by the renovated aircraft at 7:17 p.m., and a U.S. Stealth Airpower display at 7:38 p.m. Nighttime shows feature B-1 bombers with afterburner passes at 8:07 p.m. and 10:36 p.m., respectively.
Officials recommend spectators bookmark the app or add it to their mobile home screens to stay informed and not miss any part of the patriotic celebration.
