NPR: Forest Service to close low-cost research hubs while keeping $1 million facility

NPR reported that the U.S. Forest Service is moving to close several research hubs it says it can no longer afford.

The agency, NPR said, told reporters it needs to live within its means. NPR reported the planned closures include sites that rent for less than $1.

NPR also reported the Forest Service plans to keep open a research facility with an annual cost of about $1 million. The outlet said the disparity has prompted questions about the agency’s cost-cutting rationale.
