Saints first-round pick Jordyn Tyson could miss two months with hamstring injury

New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson could miss the start of the regular season after suffering a hamstring injury during training camp, NFL Network reported. The 22-year-old Arizona State product sustained the injury during last Thursday’s joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to sources.

Saints head coach Kellen Moore said Friday that Tyson might be sidelined through the beginning of the season. If the timeline holds, Tyson could miss at least five games, including their Week 6 matchup against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The team also has a game scheduled in Paris as part of the NFL’s International Games.

Tyson, who was drafted eighth overall in April, previously dealt with hamstring issues at Arizona State. However, Moore refuted speculation that this injury was related to his college history. Moore told ESPN that the injury was caused by a slip and shove during practice and was not connected to Tyson’s past hamstring problems.

Moore added that Tyson had practiced every day during training camp and was adjusting well to his new team. “He’s played really good football,” Moore said. “This is just part of preseason and camp. We’ll work through it and he’ll be fine.”

Tyson’s recovery will be a focus for the Saints as they prepare for the upcoming season. The team bolstered its offense in the offseason, including extending receiver Chris Olave and signing running back Travis Etienne Jr. to a four-year, $48 million deal. They also welcome back Alvin Kamara, aiming to build on the improvements seen in the second half of last season. Tyson’s return will be important if he can recover quickly, as the team hopes to have their first-round pick back on the field soon.
