Supreme Court declines to hear gun industry challenge to New York law
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a gun industry challenge to a New York law that allows lawsuits against gun manufacturers and dealers for “harms resulting from the criminal or unlawful misuse” of their merchandise.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation said it had sought to appeal a lower-court ruling alongside gun makers Smith & Wesson and Ruger.
The disputed state law permits civil suits when plaintiffs allege injuries tied to criminal or unlawful misuse of firearms and related products, according to the language cited in the case.
By turning away the appeal, the Supreme Court left the lower-court ruling in place.
