TN Promise Deadline Nov. 2 for Middleton-Area Seniors

High school seniors in Middleton and across Hardeman County have less than a week to meet the TN Promise deadline. Applications for the Class of 2027 are due Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, and students who miss it lose their chance at the scholarship that can cover community college or technical college tuition.

The application takes only a few minutes online, but it opens the door to two years of tuition help and to Tennessee’s Direct Admissions program.

What the TN Promise Deadline Means for Seniors

TN Promise is a “last-dollar” scholarship. It pays tuition and mandatory fees that are not already covered by the federal Pell Grant, the HOPE Scholarship or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award. Students can use it at any of Tennessee’s 13 community colleges, 22 Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCATs), and other eligible schools that offer associate degree programs.

Seniors apply through the THEC Student Portal at CollegeforTN.org. To set up an account, students need:

  • Their name exactly as it appears on their Social Security card
  • Their Social Security number
  • Their date of birth
  • A personal email address (not a school account)

Steps After You Apply

Applying by Nov. 2 is only the first step. According to CollegeforTN.org, Class of 2027 students also must:

  • Complete the 2027-28 FAFSA by April 1, 2027. The form opened Oct. 1, 2026.
  • Attend one mandatory meeting in December 2026 or January 2027, set up by the student’s partnering organization (tnAchieves or The Ayers Foundation Trust, depending on the county).
  • Complete 16 hours of community service by Aug. 1, 2027. Service done since Aug. 1, 2025, counts.
  • Enroll full-time in an eligible program.

Direct Admissions Letters Also Tied to Application

Filling out the TN Promise application also connects seniors to TN Direct Admissions, now in its second year. The program sends eligible public, private and homeschooled seniors automatic admission offers and financial aid estimates from participating colleges, which have grown to 63 schools.

Nearly 44,000 Class of 2027 students have already received Direct Admissions letters from Gov. Bill Lee, and about 26,000 more are expected after the Nov. 2 deadline, the Hatchie Press reported. Students who get a letter have until June 1, 2027, to claim their spot.

“Tennessee continues to lead the way in making higher education more accessible and affordable,” said Dr. Steven Gentile, executive director of the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

Middleton High School seniors and their families with questions should contact their school counselor or visit CollegeforTN.org/tnpromise.
