Ripley clinched its second consecutive Class 4A Region 3 volleyball championship Tuesday with a road sweep of Senatobia, while Walnut added a ninth straight volleyball victory and a boys cross-country meet title.
Ripley secures playoff top seed
The Lady Tigers beat Senatobia 3–0 on Sept. 29, improving to 6–0 in district play and securing a No. 1 seed for the Class 4A playoffs. Coach Julianna Potts’ team completed a season sweep of Senatobia.
Walnut won 25–11, 25–12, 25–12 at Baldwyn to move to 28–4 overall and 8–0 in Class 2A Region 1. The Wildcats allowed just 35 points in their fifth consecutive sweep.
Walnut’s boys also won the New Site Invitational cross-country meet. The program recognized James McConnell, Jeremiah McAlister and Landon Jones as its top finishers. Complete team scores, individual places and race times were unavailable in Wednesday morning’s report.
Blue Mountain Christian’s No. 16 men’s golf team placed fifth among 20 teams at The Invite at Innisbrook in Palm Harbor, Florida. The field included 11 NAIA Top 25 programs.
The Toppers shot 294, 294 and 296 for an 884 total. Alex Nordstrom tied for 10th at 217, Agustin Frutos tied for 19th at 222, and Axel Houdaille tied for 22nd at 223. BMCU finished three strokes behind fourth-place Webber International.
The BMCU women finished eighth in a 13-team field at the same tournament, posting rounds of 316, 318 and 314 for a 948 total. Their final round was their best team score.
Ansley Pratt led the Toppers in 20th place at 230, closing with a 75. Karla Frutos placed 29th at 235, and Morgan Dabbs tied for 35th at 238. BMCU finished one stroke behind seventh-place Spring Hill.
