Walnut bounced back from a second-set loss at Hatley on Thursday to win 3–1 and remain unbeaten in Class 2A Region 1 volleyball. At the Topper Trails High School Classic, Walnut’s James McConnell led Tippah County’s boys with a seventh-place 5K finish, Tippah County Sports reported.
Volleyball
Walnut won 25–16, 21–25, 25–10, 25–12, improving to 23–4 overall and 7–0 in the region. Pine Grove swept Biggersville 3–0 for its fifth consecutive win and moved to 18–10. Wheeler swept Falkner 25–21, 25–17, 25–14, leaving the Eagles 7–13 overall and 5–3 in district play.
Topper Trails and golf
McConnell ran 18 minutes, 6 seconds, and Walnut placed seventh among 23 scoring boys teams with 242 points. Blue Mountain finished 16th and Pine Grove 23rd. Blue Mountain’s Adrianna Bolden recorded the county’s highest girls finish, taking 25th in 25:39. No Tippah County girls team posted a score.
Falkner’s Preston Jackson shot 44 to finish 11th in Thursday’s nine-hole boys golf match at Booneville.
Friday football
Ripley hosts Booneville, Falkner hosts East Union and Walnut hosts Myrtle. All three games are scheduled for 7 p.m., according to Tippah County Sports’ Friday schedule.
