Young Frankenstein Wraps Final Weekend at Ripley’s Dixie Theatre

Theater fans have one last weekend to catch Young Frankenstein in Ripley. The Ripley Arts Council’s production of the Mel Brooks musical comedy closes Sunday at the historic Dixie Theatre on South Main Street, and the group says only three performances remain.

Ripley Main Street shared the reminder this week, urging residents not to miss “this fabulous play” and crediting the Arts Council with putting together “a great show.”

According to the Ripley Arts Council / Dixie Theatre, the remaining performances are:

  • Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. (closing matinee)

All shows are at the Dixie Theatre, 106 S. Main St. in downtown Ripley.

A Note for Parents

The theater is reminding families that Young Frankenstein is a PG-13 production with adult humor and material. The Arts Council says the show is not recommended for young children, so parents may want to plan accordingly.

The musical follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the famous mad scientist, as he reluctantly picks up the family business. The stage version is based on the 1974 Mel Brooks film and is known for its slapstick humor and musical numbers. The Arts Council’s own promotion leans into the fun, telling audiences to “come laugh, sing, and roll in ze hay.”

How to Get Tickets

Tickets are sold through the theater’s official online box office at stageonmain.simpletix.com and at the Dixie Theatre box office. The Arts Council notes that all ticket sales are final.

The theater has also warned patrons to be careful with ticket resales. While it encourages people who can’t attend to pass their tickets along to someone else, it says scammers sometimes post in comments or send messages offering “extra” tickets. Official tickets come only from the SimpleTix site or the box office, and buyers who are unsure can contact the theater directly.

Community Theater on the Square

The Ripley Arts Council stages several productions each year at the Dixie Theatre, one of the anchors of downtown Ripley’s entertainment scene. Season memberships, which include tickets to each production, are available through the same online box office.

The closing weekend also lines up with other downtown activity, including the Jefferson Street Tap Room Oktoberfest on the Ripley square Saturday evening, which makes it a busy weekend for downtown Ripley.
