Deer Diseases Found in Tippah and Alcorn Counties
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks recently received and revealed reports of Chronic Wasting Disease being present in deer that were killed by hunters in Tippah and Alcorn counties.
These are the first positive tests of CWD to come from both counties.
The results and samples will now be sent to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory in Ames, Iowa to receive further testing.
78 CWD-positive tests have come from white-tailed deer in eight different counties.
The department is still relying and asking for samples of hunter-harvested deer in order to locate and contain the spread of CWD.
