Oxford police say license plate readers and traffic cameras helped track a vehicle across several states that led to the arrest of two people in a burglary that netted more than $140,000 in jewelry.

A public safety message warned that temperatures inside a vehicle can rise quickly and urged people to never leave children, pets or vulnerable adults inside, saying “Stop. Look. Lock.”

Pontotoc County said the Disaster Service Center at the Pontotoc County Agri-Center will be closed Saturday, May 30, and will reopen Monday, June 1. The county said residents can apply to FEMA online, by phone or via the FEMA App.

Organizers say the event at Lowe’s Meridian will offer information on preparing for storms and emergencies and connect residents with local resources.

Forecasters warned of several bands of heavy rain moving into northeast Arkansas, with coverage expected to increase through the afternoon and continue through tomorrow morning.

Organizers said a guitar signed by artists who performed at the 2025 Burnside Music Fest is up for auction with proceeds designated for historic downtown Ripley revitalization projects. Bids must be placed in the comments on the festival’s post; the auction ends Saturday, June 6, at 10 p.m.
