Mississippi DOT urges drivers to give bicyclists 3 feet, pass when safe
The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged drivers to share the road and take specific safety steps as Bike Safety Month winds down, the agency said.
MDOT told drivers to slow down, yield to bicyclists as they would other vehicles and not to underestimate a cyclist’s speed, the agency said. It warned drivers not to cut off bicyclists when turning.
MDOT advised motorists to leave at least 3 feet of clearance and to change lanes to pass. The agency said Mississippi law permits passing bicyclists in a no-passing zone if it is safe to do so.
“With all of us looking out for one another, we can all make it home safely,” MDOT said in its post.
