Mississippi DOT warns drivers to watch for alligators on roads

The Mississippi Department of Transportation posted photos on social media and urged motorists to watch for alligators on roadways, the agency said.

In the post marking National Alligator Day, the department noted that drivers in the state are accustomed to deer causing vehicle damage in the fall, but said alligators can also present a hazard if motorists are not careful.

The department used the phrase “Expect the Unexpected” and asked drivers to avoid distractions and keep an eye out for all wildlife while behind the wheel, saying the advice applies year-round.

The post included photographs and hashtags related to the state highways and National Alligator Day, the department said.
