Mississippi DOT warns of heavy rain, urges drivers to avoid flooded roads

A tropical system will bring heavy rain to Mississippi this week, with particularly wet conditions expected June 17, 2026, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said in a social media post.

MDOT urged drivers to avoid flooded roadways and warned motorists to never drive through standing or flowing water, the agency said.

The department advised travelers to check conditions on their routes before heading out using the free MDOT Traffic app or MDOTtraffic.com, MDOT said.

MDOT told residents to stay weather-aware and repeated the safety slogan ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown,’ the agency said.
