MDOT warns drivers to avoid flooded roads as Tropical Storm Arthur impacts Gulf Coast

At 5 p.m. Thursday, the Mississippi Department of Transportation said drivers in south and central Mississippi should exercise caution and avoid flooded roadways as Tropical Storm Arthur brings heavy rainfall, gusty winds and flash flood conditions.

MDOT said flash flooding is being reported on several roadways in south Mississippi. The agency advised drivers to avoid the following locations while flash flood conditions are present: Miss. 53 at Miss. 603 in Pearl River County; Miss. 13 at James Road in Pearl River County; Miss. 43 at Hickory Nut Road in Pearl River County; and Miss. 604 at Whipple Road in Hancock County.

MDOT urged motorists to steer clear of flooded roadways and to take alternate routes when possible while conditions persist, the agency said.
