Mississippi honor guard attends national memorial, aids families of three fallen officers

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard participated in the 45th Annual National Police Officers’ Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., as National Police Week concluded, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said.

The department said the honor guard stood alongside agencies from across the nation to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

Mississippi officials said the honor guard assisted and supported the families of three Mississippi officers being honored: Officer Bryan Pippin of the Jackson Police Department, Deputy Joshua Brashears of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Deputy Martin Shields Jr. of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department.

The department said their sacrifice will not be forgotten and that it will continue to honor their memory and support the loved ones they left behind.
