Nearly 6 in 10 killed on Mississippi weekends were unrestrained, NHTSA says

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said 59 percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed on weekends in Mississippi from 2014 through 2023 were not wearing seat belts.

The agency released the statistic as part of its “Click It or Ticket” seat-belt enforcement campaign, NHTSA said.

NHTSA urged motorists to buckle up and said the figure highlights ongoing risks for people who do not use restraints, the agency said.

The agency called on Mississippi drivers and passengers to wear seat belts on every trip, especially on weekends, NHTSA said.
