Most of Mississippi under elevated flash flood threat
Most of Mississippi is under an elevated (Level 2) flash flood threat through this afternoon, the alert said.
The alert said 1 to 3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts possible, may fall in a short period over already saturated soils.
The alert said potential impacts include flooded roads, minor flooding of structures and flash flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.
The alert urged motorists to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” saying just a few inches of moving water can sweep away a vehicle.
The alert advised residents to stay weather aware and monitor local forecasts and alerts throughout the day.
