Three Mississippi educators sentenced for embezzling nearly $400,000

Two former school superintendents and a schoolteacher were sentenced after authorities said they stole nearly $400,000 in Department of Education funds, the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office said.

The auditor’s office said it worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi and the Trump administration’s task force to eliminate fraud to investigate and secure convictions. The office said the arrests and prosecutions were part of the administration’s National Fraud Enforcement Division.

State Auditor Shad White commended his staff and the U.S. attorney’s office for pursuing the case. “Thank you to my team that helped uncover the facts on this case and to the US Attorney’s Office for prosecuting,” White said. “We will continue to work as hard as we can to hold anyone who steals taxpayer funds accountable.”

The auditor’s office did not provide the names of the defendants, the dates of sentencing or specific counts. It said the work was done on behalf of taxpayers.
