Officials warn of severe storms, flash flooding across Mississippi

Mississippi officials warned residents to stay weather aware Tuesday as severe storms and an elevated flash-flood threat move across much of the state from noon through midnight.

A weather advisory said 3 to 5 inches of rain were possible in a short period, with locally higher totals. The advisory said areas of flash flooding are likely and some roads could become flooded or closed.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation urged drivers to use extra caution and check live road conditions via the MDOT Traffic App or at MDOTtraffic.com.

Officials urged motorists not to drive through flooded roadways, citing the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” safety guidance, and advised residents to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.

State officials and the advisory asked residents to monitor local forecasts and alerts for updates on conditions and potential impacts.
