Upper-level ridge weakens; marginal severe storm risk remains
Meteorologists said the upper-level ridge is slowly weakening, raising hopes that extreme heat will ease in a few days.
Forecasters cautioned that the heat may not subside without some turbulence. They said there is a marginal risk for severe storms today, mainly south of a line from Jonesboro to Jackson.
Damaging winds were identified as the primary threat through mid-evening, forecasters said.
Forecasters said the weakening ridge should gradually reduce the extreme heat over the next several days, but they urged continued attention to local forecasts.
