Mississippi community college football to expand to 10-game season in 2026
Mississippi’s community college football teams will play a 10-game regular season beginning in 2026, up from nine games. The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges member presidents approved the schedule change, citing several benefits.
The new schedule will allow each school to host five home games annually, rather than alternating between four and five games every other year. It also offers players more opportunities to showcase their skills as they pursue scholarships at four-year institutions.
“It’s a phenomenal move by our league,” Northeast Mississippi Community College head coach Greg Davis said. “I think it’s going to be a beneficial situation for all our kids to showcase their abilities. It’s a great opportunity to get some extra experience for our players.”
To accommodate the change, the league eliminated its semifinal round and removed the bye week. The division winners will now advance directly to the conference championship game. This move marks the first time in roughly 25 years that Mississippi community college football will have a 10-game regular season.
The upcoming season is set to begin in late August.
