Cassidy slows vote-a-rama to block Trump $1.8 billion fund, senators say

Republican and Democratic senators said Thursday the Senate’s vote-a-rama is being slowed by Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., who is trying to refine language to block President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund.

Vote-a-rama — a marathon series of votes on amendments to the budget reconciliation package — has stretched into the day, the senators said.

The senators said Cassidy has spoken to Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough as he seeks to perfect the language aimed at stopping the fund.

Lawmakers from both parties said the effort has contributed to delays in the amendment votes, prolonging the Senate’s consideration of the reconciliation package.
